STEPPING UP

WHAT A WEEK YHO.. YOU KNOW ONE SHOULD NEVER UNDERMINE THEMSELVES OR THEY WILL BE LEFT BEHIND. BEING THE YOUNGEST AND INEXPERIENCED IS SCARY AND EVERYONE DOES NOT EASILY ENTRUST YOU WITH WORK.

THE WEEK STARTED OFF SLOW, I CAN NOT EVEN REMEMBER THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK. ON TUESDAY I STARTED ASSISTING WITH THE CONSTRUCTION RESOLUTION WITH REGARDS TO A STAIRCASE DESIGN. THE RISERS HAD TO BE CLOSED OFF USING WOOD AND STEEL. I STARTED LOOKING AT PRECEDENT AND READING UP FROM THE BUILDING REGULATIONS TO GAIN MORE INFORMATION AND UNDERSTANDING OF TECHNICAL RESOLUTIONS.

FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK I WAS DESIGNING TEMPLATES OF POSSIBLE DESIGNS FOR THE STAIRCASE AND HAND RAILINGS. SET UP A SMALL PRESENTATION WITH THE PRECEDENTS AT HAND. THE HEAD ARCHITECT WILL THEN DECIDE WHICH IS THE BEST POSSIBLE DESIGN OR THE ONE WHICH COULD BE WORKED FROM.

ANOTHER PROJECT I SLOWLY STARTED HELPING WITH IS THE RENOVATIONS OF OLD BUILDINGS IN THE BO KAAP AREA. THIS WEEK WAS ONLY ABOUT PAPER WORK AND IDENTIFYING THE LOCATION OF THE BUILDINGS WITH RELATION TOT EH NATIONAL HERITAGE LINE AND PROPOSED LINES. THIS STAGE RECURRED READING UP, PLOTTING AND FINDING CHARACTERISTICS OR PATTERNS AMONG THE BUILDINGS.
THE WORK IS STEPPING UP AND THAT IS WHAT I NEED......

work work work

good day cuties
my first week at work has been fairly slow. i am working at the civic centre for the city of cape town.
things are slowly coming together as everyone is treating me like a little baby. they are all afraid to give me hectic work and honestly i am too. everyone seems so grown up and proffesional that i feel so young and knowing nothing. they all help me and give me something to do, people are freindly. i have been to four site visits which was good exposer. the counsel is doing so much for the city and it is hard work. i have even been to a site meeting, with quantity serveys, contractions, project managers, architects, technicians and owners of the building. that showed me the complexity of the proffessiona world. it involves so many people and it needs patience and true passion for your work. hope that in the near future i can do more for my log book. i even have a new big sister.
this is an image of an office extesion in newlands for the electrical department. ive learnt of new materials and organising to fit the old.

more pictures on the michell's plain fire station and we went out to a floor finishing company which introduced the new and effective way of using concrete for floors.
picures coming up next

i love this tree from the claremont gardens. its stability, structure and strength...nature inspires
