mOloweni....HeLLo!
this week was short due to the public holidays ....and that means everyone is in holiday mood, no interest in work ...no no no. but i had to push myself...
im still working on the as built drawings for teh houses in bo kaap....and went back to one of the schedules just to finish up and get ready for print.
yet the bad news of the week...i was planning to go on a revit course next week but it has been cancelled due to the low number of people who applied now i have to wait until next time but i will not just sit around....have another course coming up....one has to go out their and better their skills to stay in the game...
off to church now and get busy with the things of God....life has to have balance..

LONG BRIDGE BACK TO THE PAST
HAPPY AND BLESSED EASTERS EVERYONE...!
this short week (thank God) has gone by so slowly...well after the site visits and measuring up of the houses in Bo Kaap i started this week with the as built drawings....which have been taking me forever, and to make enlarge matters i have been issued with more houses to draw......looking forward to that as it is helping me improve my cad skills and layers.....last year i had a hard time with it...
next week is going to be an empty week as everyone seems to be going on leave....but my leave time is saved up for a very special occasion, hopeful it will go through and i will inform everyone asap....i cant wait -its to strength the construction of the future natalie -THE ARCHITECT.......i love this art....its not a job or a career but my life.....
kisses... : -)

MY COMMENTS ON OUR CLASS BLOG LINKS
Some advice on the design process
Natalie Mdonga said...
its funny how I as a student what to do everything right and am so afraid of my thoughts yet as in the video, my life is where I have to draw information from and also put it together. Further more, sketched-and keep at it, as there the first solution is not the only one and putting information together is good.

Interesting architect, or should I say thinker-starchitect. It is about analysis and research, this means thoroughly critical researching and thinking- analysis everything, always go back and redesign, find other ways.
One thing that got my attention was that he said as an architect he is there to change the situation...

Firstly love the idea, the concept and the building. Bathing born of the mountain- that was his conceptual idea and he took it through every thought process. What I think was important was the fact that he focused on the function and not the immediate aspects at hand.
Movement through different spaces, interplay of openings, blending into the landscape...it all came together.

NEW EXPERIENCE- THE HISTORY OF CAPE TOWN
hello hello hello
this week started of very and i mean very slow. i was working on my old work and waiting for someone to get back to me with something to finish up , and guess what, i am still waiting.
but thursday and today-friday turned out pretty refreshing. one of my first admin work at work had to do with dating and locating old councel houses in the Bo-Kaap. now the inspections and drawings are starting and it has been a historical eye opener. the beauty and construction of our historical buildings. we went out and inspected the first house on thursday. measured up and i had to start on the drawings....friday was house number two which was much more renovated than the first even though they are in teh same street. the materials used in the past , strong and the quality better then that which we use today.

THINKING ARCHITECTURALLY-CHAPTER 5: THE IDEA OF STRUCTURE AS ORDER
-structure = dealing with how the loads and forces on and in a building are resolved.
structure does not only deal with resolving forces, it also deals with form.
- successful enviroment = structural good sense and rationality as well as aesthetic good sense and judgment ,form and structural issues are the bases of making a building = develop ways to deal with then.
- 3 types of structures = solid - walls act as both the enclosing and the supporting elements.
skeletal - framework which supports all the loads.
surface - wall and roof act as both the enclosing and supporting structure.
- structure resides in form = form and structure go hand in hand and influence each other.
beauty = harmony of parts as reflected in proportion and luminosity.
- it is not merely based on aesthetics but in every detailed aspect of constuction and design = the structure, form, technology and detailing, even simplicity best designed is beauty.
- with structuring - one has to provide adequate support for each element, ensure stability and adequate connections between these elements.
- stability = the ability of the structure to resist overall movement.
- ribs of the gothic cathedral = aesthetically pleasing and technically strong support = be innovative in designing = incorporate structure and framework as part of the design.
concepts to consider = thrust, bending and loads.
- develop proper sense of structure = evolving building based on structural good sense rather than making forms that stand up structurally yet are structurally absurd.
as a student i need to work with form as part of structure, neither dominates. be aware of technical developments, constructional techniques and new materials. i have to think before designing.....!

PAGE 143 - SPACE ENCLOSING/DEFINING SYSTEMS
firstly the diagrams are very clear and they unpack the logic behind spaces. with regards to the hub i was mainly focused on the space defining systems. the spaces of the hub should define the function and movement.
spaces penetrating = plays with movement and makes movement an activity.
it is important to merge the inside with the outside in my function-been homework = clear light, relaxation and the emotions and calmness created by the merge.
linited spatial systems = enough space for activities and future extensions. the manner in which the structure is constructure is constructed will thus respond to gravity. i have to design my hub in such a way that every view is important and offers something.
and finally = continuity of idea...............through every aspect.

THINKING ARCHITECTURALLY-CHAPTER 3: WHY MODERN BUILDINGS LOOH THE WAY THEY DO
the chapter as stated in the beginning focuses on modern buildings and its characteristics. it takes on the issues such as form follows function-the extend and result of such ligic. spaces - its relationships and continuity, the manner in which movement is an activity that also orientates space and out adjustment of spaces as a result of technology.
i understood that style is about a general agreement of most withr regards to the way things are done at a particular point in time. just as times change and fashion changes, architecture is also subject to teh shift in fashion. therefore i have to be updated, research and be informed to be able to make logical decisions. style is a place and time bound phenomenon.
modernism on the other hand came with an idea of timeless style.
the main factor been functionalism which is based on logic not time or changing with fashion, modernism took on the proposition of functionalism. with form folloes function, for me the bases starts with the form reflecting the function.
architecture is based on space(structuring of space). now again how i interpret my space can also go hand in hand with function to create the form. in modern times, is functional activites best suited for differnet spatial requiremetns? how about placing spaces differrently to create a spatial hierachy..and how?
movement has become an activity in itself and should be expressive. one moves through space not just simply connecting spaces. therefore when dealing with spaces, movement has to be taken into consideration. movement = should be enjoyed(view, pause, rest etc.) architecture is a product of logic.
now we get to a point where movement structures space instead of focusing on historical understanding and designing.
the adjustment of space is function of technology. here i see that i need to understand materials and their technology not only for the quality of the building but the defining of space. factors to deal with are such as contextualism and technical constraints.
architecture explores ways to give expresssion to culture and try to clarify its context.
the summary simplified matters as follows:
- movement through space can be a primary structuring device = work aroung how people move in a space and space needed to move = form.
- technology = powerful structuring idea
- different buildings take up different references
to end i definitely inderstood that logical thinking and designing are critical....not focusing on historical references as such....we live in the modern age and understanding and research are inssential!
kisses... :-)

NOTHING MUCH TO SAY....IM TIRED....
hi cuties...
this week has been pretty much slow.....just working on one thing for the past week and it is realy wearing me down now.....one thing though i am learning a great deal about materials and construction, even drawing things....it is all about understanding the construction first before drawing.
but the most important thing that i have learnt is that i need God, and God does ntot need me. and god is the person that sits on that one special church in my heart, is it myself or material things or does God sit on my church..?
kisses....:-)

FINISHING OFF
Hi ladies....o and gentlemen
i am thrilled about the extension of our submission....really needed that!
this week i had to finalise my schedules...to the standard of the architect so i had to do work about three times to get to the final produced and it was not even that much doors and windows...but im done.
FINAL PRODUCES
Part of this week i work on my tech projectr-the hub, trying to understand my concept and design more as i had no clue as to what i was doing and honestly i still do not but when i final get the time to sit down and work through it i will. today i an working on my portfolio submission, i do not have much and now i am even happy about that....cause of all the questions to answer and work to prepare....next time do it as i go along.
this morning i was briefed on my next set of work....toilet layouts and finishing schedules, to add to that an even complexed door and window schedule...hope after this i will be given something new and different to do.
enjoy the week cuties
kisses....:-)
